• metal bars less than 0.6 Inches between the bars
• large enough doors (some cages originally designed for example for birds do not have big enough doors for the running wheel or feeding station.)
• lock or hatch to close from the outside (if it is too easy to open they can figure out how to open it)
• removable bottom tray under the cage for easy cleaning and potty pad changing
• the possibility to add an additional level is a plus
• stand with wheels will make it much easier to move around
• minimum of 2 levels

Finally, make sure the sugar glider cage is kept clean and free of any sharp objects that could hurt your pet. Inspect the cage regularly and remove any potential hazards. Make sure the cage has plenty of toys and activities for your sugar glider. They are very active creatures and need things to keep them occupied.
